About Shorin-Ryu Shorinkan Karate

Villieria Tigers Shorin-Ryu Shorinkan Karate Dojo teaches Kobayashi-Ryu, a style of Shorin-Ryu created by Chosin Chibana. It is a traditional Okinawan style of Karate, that was developed through the Shuri-Te lineage.

Shorin-Ryu is considered by many authorities as having had the most influential impact on all other modern styles of Karate, following its emergence from Okinawa and its spreading to Japan and the rest of the world.

Technically, Shorin-Ryu is a very natural style of Karate, that tends to use much more natural and upright stances than the more modern Japanese styles of Karate.

Kumite

Kumite is a very important part of Karate training. It utilizes the skills developed in Kata and allows the student to use them spontaneously. By practicing Kumite, timing and speed are increased. It is imperative that students practice using light contact with extreme self-control.

Kata training readies the student for contact kumite. Kumite sharpens punching, kicking and blocking skills, while developing control, timing, speed and efficiency of movement.

Kumite teaches how to use fighting distance effectively in attacking and defending. Without kumite the student cannot learn combative skills.
